The IAMGOLD mining company is currently excavating the Westwood mine east of Rouyn-Noranda, in the Abitibi region. With a projected depth of approximately 2 200 m, the shaft will require about 23 000 m3 of concrete, poured continuously. Day and night, our on-site mobile plant supplies self-compacting concrete with no entrained air, a pressure resistance of 25 MPa and a spread of 650 mm to 800 mm.

To flow properly through the metal pipe measuring 15 cm (6 in.) in diameter which descends into the shaft, the concrete must be very fluid and at the proper temperature. Once it’s poured into the pipe, the concrete's temperature rises due to friction. Therefore, the composition of the mixture is modified accordingly as the depth of the work increases.
